Partnered Organisations:

After a Fantastic summer of projects we are now entering into the Christmas rush but we thought would show how a beautiful old barn renovation can retain its charm and character, whilst incorporating all the latest technology to bring this home exploding into the Present and catering well into the Future.
This is a local project near Petersfield, where the clients are some of those rare ones that like being introduced to new ideas, allowing us to provide them with what we do best: Creative design and installation that not only transforms the way they interact with their home but Tames all of the systems to include heating, whole house lighting, security, music and video storage and distribution.
These are then presented to the client in a uniform and intuitive interface on handheld touch screen controls, utilising a Wi-Fi network.

Lighting of the Main Barn
After our introduction to the client from Pad Decor, a fellow SCDF member, we accessed the client’s problems. In the original renovation of the Main Barn the provision was only made for a very basic lighting layout, the most obvious problem was the complete absence of low level and task lighting and maintenance of the fittings.
We knew the scheme had to be sympathetic to the building but showcase the structure and provide functional lighting at all levels whilst being easy to maintain and simple to control.
We chose to implement a lighting control system or scene setting system to allow them to set a ambience throughout the vast open area from a one button, yet allow specific control from the local wall plates. These types of system not only provide an energy saving but expand as the project progresses 3rd party integration and control would also be a requirement in this project.

Amongst all of the interesting features left, we noticed a section of the original roof that was intact and decided this was in need of our creativity. We proposed some architectural LEDs to pour light across the feature highlighting the timbers and casting some equally intriguing shadows behind.
To achieve the task lighting we chose a wire track system to minimise the presence of light fittings, but allow complete flexibility of positioning. The high level accent and spot lighting was handled by new GU10 based fittings and as these were now on the lighting control system the lamp life would be approximately doubled minimising the need for maintenance.
A smattering of some table lamps controlled via the system and the overall result was remarkable the transformation from gloomy barn to cosy home was made. Add to that the LED feature in the entrance area and a hand made chandelier ordered to suspend over the dining table, the clients had made their mark with style and taste, enhancing the natural features of their home.
